  • Conducted an organizational assessment for a higher education institution aimed at creating an agile and highly scalable organization. Results formed the basis for a management team strategy offsite and adoption of several of the recommendations is in progress.
  • Facilitated a new product innovation session for a B2B publisher. Engagement resulted in 35 new product ideas, several of which are moving into feasibility studies.
  • Conducted an organizational assessment for a medium-sized publishing company to provide advice and opinions on whether it had the appropriate organization structure, talent, technology, data architectures, and ultimately the ability to support and drive the organization’s growth strategy. Recommendations resulted, in the CEO’s words “strategic changes to our business that better position the company for long term growth.”
  • Conducted an organizational and technology readiness assessment for a B2B publisher and assisted in selection of a new CTO. Currently assisting the organization in strengthening product technology and product development processes and capabilities. The CEO described the work as “the best investment he ever made in the business.”
  • Completed two research projects for an IT advisory services company on mobile and cloud practices and maturity, including survey design, analysis, and reporting of results.
  • Conducted a technology and agility assessment for an association that identified needed changes in organization, technology, product architectures, and product management. Resulting recommendations and road map were accepted by the organization, a product platform architecture completed, and workshops on product innovation and management were conducted. The association is now on the road to re-vamping its products and product technologies.
  • Assisted Adobe Software in the development of a go-to-market strategy for its enterprise Acrobat products including market assessment, strategy development, collateral development, and competitive analysis. Target market was CIOs and the challenge was positioning and describing the product set in terms that resonated with that audience.
  • Assisted Avery Dennison in development of strategies to expand on-line business using media tie-ins to drive use of their web-based applications.
  • Conducted a build vs. buy vs. partner study for a large information and technology provider that included market opportunity assessment, competitor profiles, identification of potential target acquisitions or partners, and a recommendation to partner or acquire, not build the technology solution.
  • Conducted speaking and facilitating sessions for several publishers and information providers covering topics including corporate and business strategy; next generation disruptive technologies and how to leverage them; trends and opportunities in mobile content, mobile apps, and agile product development.
  • Authored positioning and messaging marketing white papers for several content software companies to assist moves into new geographic and industry markets.
  • Wrote and published over 40 reports and articles on agile product development, multi-channel publishing, search, semantic technology, content engineering, web and enterprise 2.0, social media and user-generated content, and workflow integration.
  • Quoted in Business Week, Computerworld, The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, Information Today, E-Content, and numerous blogs. Speaker at SIIA, Gilbane, London Online, NFAIS, SLA, SPAB, Seybold, and other conferences.
